Mifgash: (Meef-Gush - מִפְגָש) - A meeting; a meeting of one group of Canadian grade 9 students and Israeli grade 9 students for five days in northern Israel.

From yesterday (Sunday) until Friday morning, our students will be staying with families of Israeli students that came to visit Edmonton in September. The students attend Emek Ha'Chula Regional School at Kibbutz Kfar Blum. Here is a map:
You see "Hula Valley?" That's where we are! It's pretty far from Tel Aviv, but nice and close to Syria!

Following a good shabbos shluff after the beach, we walked from our hotel to Yafo for a short tour and some ice cream. After was havdallah and some shopping at Dizengoff mall. Finally, it was time to sleep cuz we were up early yesterday!

At Caesaria, the students saw the amphitheatre, the port, and the hippodrome, and got some ice cream. Finally it was time to head up to the north for the mifgash.

We separated from Calgary and the air was electric. The kids were very excited to reunite with their friends from Israel, and it was very nice to see that the connection the program aims to create really might exist in this group.

Last night the students attended Holocaust Day memorial ceremonies at the various kibbutzim on which they are staying.

This morning they actually met up with a survivor named Sofi who had come to England on the kindertransport before the war. She has been in Israel for 60 years. Following this, we went to the large gym for the two minute siren and school-wide remembrance ceremony.

I will interview the students later on their thoughts and post a few. Right now they are off in their pen-pals' classes and I am in the teachers' area posting some pictures.

There's a lot more to come but I figured it would be nice if you had just a taste to wake up to.
