Pre-Erev Yom HaZikaron

Well we just got back from an Erev Yom HaZikaron ceremony, so I'm not feeling in a particularly clever mood. It was a ceremony at Kibbutz Kfar HaNasi put on by participants in the Maayan Baruch Mechina program in English for the Canadian March of the Living participants and ETT/CJA. One thing I thought I'd share is what the rabbi from March of the Living said at the ceremony.

He basically said that although we Jewish people consider ourselves one people, the burden of keeping us a free people is not shared equally. Israeli citizens pay the ultimate sacrifice for keeping the world safe for Jews. They pledge to use all of their strength towards protecting the Jewish people and we pledge no such thing. We should be humbled in recognizing the service of IDF soldiers and Israeli citizens that protect us. The best way we can pay them back is to continue living our Jewish lives in the diaspora and support the State of Israel however we can.

Below you can see some pictures from our hike on Mt. Arbel and visit to Pki'in, a Druze village, where we ate some delicious humus and baklava. The last picture is everybody dressed in white for the ceremony. I'm much more excited to post some pictures on Tuesday from Yom Ha'Atzmaut :)
