For Oneg Shabbat (Shabbat fun-time), we played cherades and I made up the clues. They were mostly trip related- Jerusalem, Jordan River, Sea Net Hotel, etc- and for one I wrote "Israeli Host." Then I thought: "hmm, how about 'Israeli GHost?'" Eeeeeeh... BOO.
So welcome to our Shabbat. We actually had a very meaningful, beautiful Kabbalat Shabbat service here at Kibbutz Farrod. There was singing, reminiscing, and also talk about what everybody wants out of our last few days on the trip.
What you see below are some pictures from the last day of the mifgash and then our day today in Tzfat and celebrating Shabbat. On Kfar Blum is an activity park of sorts where there's a climbing wall, ropes course, archery, zip line, and of course, rafting. I wasn't feeling too great so I had a little shluff on a bench while the kids did all the climbing stuff, and it seems like it was fun. I did get the strength for the rafting, but I have no pictures cuz my camera's not waterproof.
You have to be fifteen to go on a raft without an adult, so I was in a raft with Sam and two Israeli boys (Omer and Yarin). It hasn't been a particularly rainy spring in Israel, so the water level is low. As much as this is disconcerting, it's silly that they let you take rafts you end up having to portage no less than three times to continue your way down the river! Anyways it was pretty ridiculous but everybody had fun there was a lot of splashing, Sam got pulled off the back of the canoe by the Israeli teacher, dead fish were being thrown around... it was worth all the portaging.
After pizza lunch, it was time for closing session of the mifgash. Everyone had a distinct favourite moment from the 5 days, whether it was a group barbecue or staying up late chatting, singing songs in the jeepim, going to the hospital, or whatnot, the experience left an impression on everybody, and I am sure these guys will be in touch for a long time.
This morning after a teary goodbye, we reunited with the Calgarians and headed down to Tzfat. Tzfat has a population of 25,000 of which 26,000 are Chasidic rabbis. But not only that, today they were joined by more than 500 March of the Living participants at the same time. Do you see how fast our bargaining leverage dissipated? "I'll leave if you don't lower the price" was not a big threat. There were 500 people in line! This definitely drove up the price of candles, but we still bought them. And it was cool to see Joey and Jack (not sure where the rest were). They looked delighted to be in Israel after last week.
Dafna's husband joined us at Farrod for Shabbat, and we had a really nice service as I said. We enjoyed fully our chicken and potatoes and I for one had a ton of fun with the oneg Shabbat games. It is now 10:30, time for lights out. I must go ensure that the lights are out.
Shabbat shalom, everyone!
